Role in Lincoln: Member of the Congregation at Northern Lighthouse
Favorite part: I would have to say that my favorite part about the Northern Lighthouse is how welcoming and inviting everyone is. The staff has been super welcoming of Jason Tieman and myself, both on our first visit two years ago and now. The fact that they care to get to know us more, make sure we are comfortable, and that things are going well in our new lives here in Lincoln, really makes a difference. The members of the congregation are also welcoming of Jason and I. I love the fact that I can’t tell the difference on who is from the center and who is not, because we don’t segregate them, but rather make them feel at one with us all no matter what their circumstance may be. The Northern Lighthouse really has the heart, passion, and desire to commit to helping those around them that are in need.
Biggest Impact: The biggest impact that the Northern Lighthouse has made on me is the RIP program. That program has helped so many current inmates and past inmates. The amount of time that the leaders put into the program, with getting the classes in order and spending time talking with those that go to the program, really says a lot about their character. I attended one class of RIP on our first visit here and that is what really sold me with this church. Everyone feels like they can be open and honest without feeling like they are being judged or made fun of. They know that the leaders really care about them and want to walk with them through their journey with Christ. They want to run the race with them. 🙂
Hebrews 12:1-2 ” Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer, and perfecter of Faith…”
